I dream of Christmas snowy white
With holly red and green
My fantasy of all the lovely
Christmas cards I've seen

I dream of decorations
Upon the wall and stairs
Of candle glow and mistletoe
And joy without the cares

But nothing seems to live up to
My plans and hopes and schemes
Reality it seems intrudes
And adds it darkened themes

Do I dream for way to much?
Seek an impossible goal
To make the holiday perfect
And in fact destroy my soul

Maybe what I need to do
As Christmas comes once more
Is start from the beginning
Cast aside what went before

I don't need to celebrate
Like everybody else
I need to do what I can do
Eliminate what's false

Christmas is a lovely time
A time of love and cheer
A time to give unselfishly
To draw your loved ones near

So take the time this season
To absorb the atmosphere
Enjoy the lights upon the tree
Create a belvedere
