The people walking in darkness
Have seen a great light;
on those living in the land
of the shadow of death
a light had dawned.
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on
His shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:2 & 6

O gracious God and Lord who gave the promise of your only begotten Son Jesus Christ through the prophets, hear the prayer which I offer. Help our ears, which often become dull to the cries by those who prepare for a pagan celebration of your birth. Help us to always be attuned to the message which the prophets give and thus prepare for the coming of your Son in Love to us. In His most holy name I pray. Amen

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. And all went to be taxed, everyone into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Luke 2: 1-7

No Room

There was no room
On that fateful day
There was no room
Just a manger and hay
There is no room
Even now in our heart
There is no room
He’s a stranger apart
There is no room
In this world for joy
There is no room
For God's baby boy.
We must make the room
If we would survive
We must make the room
For our hearts alive
We must welcome him in
We must make the time
Or no room for us
In heaven to find

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shown round about them and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not for, behold I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you, Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
Luke 2: 8-14

The Angels sang the story on that night so long ago. They didn't sing to kings, nor did they sing to the wise or the well educated or the rich or the powerful. They didn't sing to those who thought they knew it all. They sang to the poor, the uneducated, the superstitious, those who feared and stood in awe of God and all his minions.

To those poor but teachable shephards came the privilege of being the first to greet the new born King. They were the first to carry the message to the world. They left the sheep on the hillside to go and find their Savior. Can we do any less than leave the mundane things that are unnecessary in this life and seek out the one who brings true light and life to all who will come to Him, and then to carry that message to all who will listen.

Seek Him while he may still be found, for the time is coming when the night will come and there will be no more light in THIS world. Look here for the rest of this story.
